TEST CONDITIONS: Given an AN/PRC-119 or AN/PRC-77, the required accessories, and a requirement to prepare the radio for operation.

TEST STANDARDS: Tell the candidate he is a RadioTelephone Operator (RTO), with an AN/PRC-119 (dismounted) or AN/PRC-77 and required accessories, and to place the radio into operation for (manpack) operations.

1. Install battery(ies).
2. Connect TSEC/KY-57 or ANCD to radio (non-ICOM only).
3. Install antenna.
4. Connect handset H-250.
5. Record battery life condition on side of battery.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: The SOI extract, AN/PRC-77 or AN/PRC-119 FM radio, stopwatch, clipboard, BA-4836 or 5590 battery, RT-1523, antenna, and handset H-250, two field tables, pencil and ballpoint pen, and FB From 20-18-R

SITE SETUP: Locate the AN/PRC-77 or 119 Radio, SOI extract, stopwatch, clipboard, BA-4836/5590 Battery, RT-1523, antenna, and handset H-250, pencil/ballpoint pen onto two field tables.

"Let me have your attention. At this point, you are required to put the SINCGARS radio into operation within 5 minutes. You are the platoon leader, 1st Platoon, "B" Company, 1st Battalion.

"You must perform this task without injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Do you understand what you must do?"

If there are any questions, you may repeat the instructions but you may not elaborate on what you have read.

Allow the candidate to proceed for 5 minutes and say:

TEST CONDITIONS: Given a radio set prepared for operation, SOI extract, and KTC 600 or KTC 1400 training tactical operation code.

TEST STANDARDS: Enter the net through the Net Control Station (NCS), correctly perform authentication, transmit an encoded message of five words or decode a message of five words, and ask permission to leave the net within 12 minutes. Use proper radiotelephone procedures in transmitting and receiving messages.

SOLDIER'S MANUAL CROSSWALK: This task is based on task number 113-573-8006 in STP 21-24-SMCT. and 113-573-4003 in STP 7-11BCHM14-SM-TG. This task differs in that task number 113-573-4003 does not specify the number of words that have to be encoded/decoded. FM 21-75 Combat Skills of the Soldier, Chapter 7 Communications describes radio procedures.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: SOI extract, KTC 600 or KTC 1400, pencil, ballpoint pen, stopwatch, clipboard, field table; basic message to transmit, printed on a 3- by 5-inch card to include NCS frequency; and FB Form 20-19-R.

Candidates are not be penalized due to faulty equipment during transmitting/receiving message for example, message not clearly received or transmitted.

TEST CONDITIONS: Given one man-packed AN/PRC-119, and one information card consisting of: sending station duty position, receiving station duty position, and message to transmit using nonsecure RT-1439/VRC.

TEST STANDARDS: Put into operation the AN/PRC-119, load the AN/PRC-119 with the ANCD, using the extract appropriate call signs and suffixes, and send a message using proper prowords, phonetic alphabet, and numerals with 100 percent accuracy all within 12 minutes using nonsecure.

SITE SETUP: Locate the radio AN/PRC-119, RT-1439/VRC using nonsecure receiver-transmitter RT-1439/VRC, KTC 600 or 1400 SOI extract on a table. Provide enough room on the table to comfortably use SOI and KTC 600 or KTC 1400.

"Let me have your attention. At this station, you are required to place the SINCGARS into operation, fill the radio with the ANCD, use nonsecure receiver-transmitter RT-1439/VRC and (SOI) to find the correct call signs and suffixes, and send a message using the proper call signs, prowords, phonetic alphabet, and numerals with 100 percent accuracy. The date, net ID, and message that you must transmit is provided on the card in front of you. You are the platoon leader of 3d Platoon, "C" Company, 3/187 Infantry Battalion, and you are calling your company commander. You have 12 minutes to complete this task. Do you have any questions?"
