Bivy Cover, Multi-Purpose aka USAF Multi-purpose Aircrew Survival Shelter (MASS)

The Bivy Cover, Multi-Purpose can act as a waterproof outer cover for the Ecotat Light Weight Sleeping Bags Multi-Purpose or can be tied to trees or bushes to become a one-man tent. It has a hood to be worn as a poncho, though its waterial is not as robust as the TMP.

The Bivy Cover-MP has been chosen by the U.S. Air Force to be its Multi-Purpose Aircrew Survival Shelter (MASS); NSN 8340-01-450-3487.

Think of the Bivy Cover, MP as a lighter weight version of the TMP but without the provision of shock-corded tent pole sections to be a free standing tent a ground warrior would require for extended living in the outdoors. The USAF MASS intended for aircrew survival until rescued possesses the following characteristics:

1. Constructed of a water-proof/fire retardant material.

2. Weighs no more than 2.5 pounds.

3. Withstands winds up to 45 knots

4. Is capable of quick and easy entry and has three (3) exits.

5. Provides for protection against insects (flying and crawling).

6. Possesses a zippered mosquito net.

7. Possesses an attached visor mosquito net.

8. Requires no special tools for erection and striking and can easily and quickly be erected and struck by one person into a one-person shelter.

9. It is made of material that is not harmful to skin and/or wounds.

10. It is made of a material that dose not constitute a thermal hazard.

11. When in the over garment mode of operations, possesses the following

Multi-purpose functions:

a. Cagoule (Great or Long Coat)

b. Anorak (Short Coat)

c. Poncho

12. Is able to convert into the following:

a. Sleeping Bag Cover

b. Bivy-Sack tube tent
c. Hasty Shelter
d. Tarpaulin
e. A-Frame Tent
f. Lean-to Tarp
g. Field Expedient Rescue Litter

h. To completely enclose a person in the sitting position
i. Is capable of being made into an 8 x 6 foot long Air Marker Panel
j. Emergency Body Bag

Available in Woodland Camo (WC), 3-Color Desert Camo (DC) or U.S. Army Combat Uniform pattern (see below) or depicted above in USAF blue for prototype demonstration.
