U.S. ARMY EXPERT INFANTRYMAN'S BADGE (EIB) TEST

TASK SUMMARY

(Translate into Spanish, German, French?)

Station G: BASIC INDIVIDUAL TECHNIQUES

Point G-1

Task 1: Perform Individual Camouflage

TEST CONDITIONS: During daylight hours, given load-bearing equipment or ETLBV/TLBV tactical vest, M16A1/A2 rifle or M4 carbine, Kevlar© helmet with camouflage cover and band, gloves, camouflage sticks (or other material that can be used to camouflage exposed skin), and burlap or cloth strips.

TEST STANDARDS: Camouflage yourself and individual equipment and all exposed skin within 12 minutes. Camouflage material must not interfere with the operation of weapon or equipment.

SOLDIER'S MANUAL CROSSWALK: This does not differ from task number 051-191-1501 in STP 21-1-SMCT, OCT 94. The standards outlined in STP 21-1 SMCT, Oct 94 are not changed. The specific performance measures for the EIB test are found on the page 214 and 215 evaluation guide: IB shape, IC cover or remove the following items: elimination light reflection, ID color, 2. Camouflage your skin, 3. Camouflage your BDUs and personal equipment. Candidates should come to this EIB station with their LBE/ETLBV/TLBV already taped and/or painted for camouflage purposes. The score card for this task is constructed to meet the needs of the EIB test where large numbers of Soldiers are tested in a short period. FM 21-75 Chapter 1 Cover, Concealment and Camouflage offers detailed instructions with illustrations how to camouflage the Soldier.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: Camouflage sticks or compact, burlap, cloth strips, Lightweight Camouflage Screen System (LCSS) netting, natural camouflage, small mirrors, field table, stopwatch, pen, clipboard, and FB Form 20-13-R.

SITE SETUP: Provide candidate with an individual work area, camouflage material, and mirror. Evaluate candidates at a distance of 20 meters on their overall ability to camouflage according to the performance measures. For example, the grader directs the candidate to an area that is exactly 20 meters from grader to candidate. The grader directs the candidate to execute facing movements to check front, sides, and back of candidate.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

"Let me have your attention. You are be required to perform individual camouflage within 12 minutes. All necessary materials are provided. On this task, you must pass all performance measures. Do you understand what you must do? Sequence is not evaluated."

If there are any questions, you may repeat the instructions but you may not elaborate on what you have read.

Allow the candidate to proceed for 12 minutes.

"Stop."

Point G-2

Task 1: Move Under Direct Fire

www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5d6I4CkqPw

TEST CONDITIONS: Given a tactical situation where you must approach an enemy position from a distance 250 meters across varied terrain. Candidate is in EIB uniform.

TEST STANDARDS:

Move 50 meters toward the objective within 5 minutes using the low crawl, high crawl, and the rush.

SOLDIER'S MANUAL CROSSWALK: This task is based on task number 071-326-0502 in STP 21-1-SMCT, October 1994, but differs in that the candidate is only required to move 50 meters toward the enemy positions within 5 minutes from a covered and concealed starting position. For the purpose of the EIB test, the following standards apply:

The candidate must correctly perform three movement techniques as outlined STP 21-1-SMCT. A candidate can only perform a movement technique once during the evaluation. For example, a candidate must only perform low crawl once to standard to receive a GO for low crawl.

CANDIDATE: During the test, the candidate is hit by fire but continues through the course to completion. The candidate's evaluation is a GO, if he meets the standards for three movement techniques, moves entire 50 meters, and completes task in 5 minutes.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: M16A1/M16A2 rifle, M4 carbine, magazine, blank ammunition, blank adapter, stopwatch, clipboard, field table, pen/pencil, and FB Form 20-14-R.

SITE SETUP: Provide a lane that is 20 meters wide, and provide adequate cover and concealment for an individual to use proper movement techniques.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

"Let me have your attention. At this point, you are required to perform all three movement techniques toward a defensive position 250 meters away (scorer points out the defensive position). You must move 50 meters within 5 minutes."

If there are any questions, repeat the instructions but you may not elaborate on what you have read.

"Begin."

LOW CRAWL
The low crawl gives you the lowest silhouette. Use it to cross places where the concealment is very low and enemy fire or observation prevents you from getting up. Keep your body flat against the ground. With your firing hand, grasp your weapon sling at the upper sling--swivel. Let the front handguard rest on your forearm (keeping the muzzle off the ground), and let the weapon butt drag on the ground.

To move, push your arms forward and pull your firing side leg forward. Then pull with your arms and push with your leg. Continue this throughout the move.

Low and High crawl

HIGH CRAWL
The high crawl lets you move faster than the low crawl and still gives you a low silhouette. Use this crawl when there is good concealment but enemy fire prevents you from getting up. Keep your body off the ground and resting on your forearms and lower legs. Cradle your weapon in your arms and keep its muzzle off the ground. Keep your knees well behind your buttocks so your body will stay low.

To move, alternately advance your right elbow and left knee, then your left elbow and right knee.

High crawl is fastest but must be done for short distances

RUSH
The rush is the fastest way to move from one position to another. Each rush should last from 3 to 5 seconds. The rushes are kept short to keep enemy machine gunners or riflemen from tracking you. However, do not stop and hit the ground in the open just because 5 seconds have passed. Always try to hit the ground behind some cover. Before moving, pick out your next covered and concealed position and the best route to it.

Make your move from the prone position as follows:

Slowly raise your head and pick your next position and the route to it
Slowly lower your head
Draw your arms into your body (keeping your elbows in)
Pull your right leg forward
Raise your body by straightening your arms
Get up quickly
Run to the next position

When you are ready to stop moving, do the following:

Plant both of your feet
Drop to your knees (at the same time slide a hand to the butt of your rifle)
Fall forward, breaking the fall with the butt of the rifle
Go to a prone firing position

If you have been firing from one position for some time, the enemy may have spotted you and may be waiting for you to come up from behind cover. So, before rushing forward, roll or crawl a short distance from your position. By coming up from another spot, you may fool an enemy who is aiming at one spot, waiting for you to rise.

When the route to your next position is through an open area, rush by zigzagging. If necessary, hit the ground, roll right or left, then rush again

Allow the candidate to proceed for 5 minutes.

"Stop"

Point G-3

Task 1: Use Visual Signaling Techniques (Dismounted)

TEST CONDITIONS: During daylight, given a command to execute various arm-and-hand signals.

TEST STANDARDS: Demonstrate each of the 12 signals within 10 seconds after being given the name of a signal.

12. Disperse

Allow the candidate to proceed after each signal command for not more than 10 seconds.

"Stop."

Mark the candidate pass or fail for the named signal.

Continue the above process until the candidate has been scored on all 12 signals.

Point G-4

Task 1: Challenge Persons Entering Your Area

TEST CONDITIONS: During daylight, given the current challenge and password and a defensive position with a designated sector of fire. Enemy and friendly personnel may enter your sector.

TEST STANDARDS:

1. Detect and halt personnel 2 to 3 meters away.

2. Challenge them using the correct challenge.

3. Allow personnel to pass only if given the correct password. Detain personnel if not given the correct password.

SOLDIER'S MANUAL CROSSWALK: This task does not differ from task number 071-331-0801 in STP 21-1-SMCT.

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR POINT: Clipboard, pen, pencil, and FB Form 20-16-R.

SITE SETUP: Provide a concealed fighting position with a designated sector of fire, with two intruders approaching, one at a time.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

"Let me have your attention. At this point, you are required to correctly use a challenge and password. A hasty fighting position has been prepared for you. When told to do so, you occupy this position. I will then point out your sector of fire. You are required to challenge all personnel in your sector of fire. Do you understand what you must do?"

If there are questions, you may repeat the instructions, but you may not elaborate on what you have read.

Occupy the fighting position.

Allow the candidate to adjust himself in the fighting position.

"Your sector of fire is from ______ to ________."

Point out candidate's sector of fire.

"Begin."

Allow the candidate to challenge both intruders and take appropriate action.

In the setup phase, ensure the PLGR is set up for the proper DATUM (NAS-C for Ft. Benning's DMA/NIMA maps for example). You can change the SV-TYPE from ALL-Y to "Mixed", it is your option. "Mixed" means that the PLGR can track satellites quicker. Once you have the proper set up, go to POS to ensure the PLGR is tracking at least three satellites. Then come up with the required 8-digit grid coordinate.

NOTES:

1. After each candidate has finished, he goes into the set-up mode and changes the set-up datum to something other than the correct DATUM (NAS-C for Ft. Benning, Ga maps). Use the same selected wrong DATUM for each candidate.

2. Ensure that the ALM AGE is one day.

3. Make sure the candidate has the grid coordinates on the screen, and in the top right corner of that screen, he has the meter reading NOT OLD.

4. Have spare PLGRs on hand.

5. Ensure crypto variables are loaded into the PLGR.

6. Have extra BA-5800/U batteries.
