Sked-Pak I
Jumpable Medical Ruck

The Sked-Pak I Medical Jumpable Ruck is a custom bag which is the result of extensive research and development in cooperation with the U.S. military. Designed to meet the most demanding needs of a combat medic, this bag has universal application in a wide variety of military and civilian medical environments. It is available in subdued O.D. green, international orange, desert sand, or black color. The design includes a completely removable main body insert. This means that, with the purchase of an additional insert, supply personnel can prepare a complete insert and the bag can be re-stocked in less than one minute. All removable parts are priced separately, allowing the replacement of lost parts without replacing the complete bag.

The bag design includes a sewn-on single point release and removable leg straps, to meet the technical requirements for use by a parachutist. The design eliminates the need for the "H" harness. The lowering line attachment loop is at the top-rear of the bag, which prevents bending or breaking of the pack frame when the bag reaches the end of the lowering line during a jump. The Sked-Pak I fits the standard Army "AlICE" pack frame, making it unnecessary for military personnel to incur the cost of purchasing a different kind of pack frame.

The Sked-Pak I includes a variety of features that cannot be found in other medical kit bags. The outer pockets are intended for carrying personal gear, food, and water Two standard Army 2 quart canteens are carried in the upper side pockets (as shown in the green bag below, not included with bag). The canteens can be replaced with 5- litre "Camelbaks" if desired. The Sked-Pak I includes a detachable pocket, which can be placed on either end of the bag. A second pocket can be purchased to provide additional storage.

There are two compression straps over the large opening of the Sked-Pak I, to prevent equipment loss if a zipper pops on impact with the ground. Each compression strap has two male "Fastex" buckle parts attached, which allows attachment of an assault pack on the outside of the main bag. Coil zippers are used throughout the bag, allowing the sliders to be pulled back over a popped zipper, making the zipper good as new.

The Sked-Pak I mounted on ALICE frame (not included). Note the accessory pocket mounted on the top. The three point bridle system is included with the Sked-Pak I. Stress points are reinforced with extra stitching to withstand impact damage when dropped on a lowering line or upon impact with the ground. The tie-in point at the back center is designed to minimize impact on the ALICE frame and seams of the bag.

The openings on the long sides of the bag are suitable for long splints or cervical collars. The bag has a strip of elastic on one end for 1 chemlights, to light a writing area at night that is not visible to the enemy. The padding around the edges is removable and can be replaced with folded SAM Splints; up to 12 additional SAM Splints can be accommodated without taking any extra room

Viewed from the bottom, the Sked-Pak I reveals the single point release configuration. All components of the single point release system are included with the bag, including the leg straps. No "H" harness is needed to operate the system.

One personal gear accessory pack comes with each Sked-Pak I. It can be attached to either the top or bottom of the Sked-Pak I. An additional accessory pack can be purchased and the two accessory packs attached top and bottom to provide additional storage.

The Sked-Pak I, opened, with airway management bag and compression straps. The inside lid of the bag is intended for non-disposable medical gear. It features a non-glare clear plastic over the velcroed compartments and separate instrument inserts

Between the lid and the main compartment is a detachable airway management pouch, which also has a clear non-glare plastic on one side and sewn pockets with elastic on the other. This pouch allows storage of all airway management equipment.

The main body insert of the Sked-Pak I is re-configurable for any user; SF 18D Medical Sergeants, 91B/C Aidmen (Combat medics), doctors, PA's or medical corpsmen. It can carry up to six IV units, several dressings in full battle packs, or can be reconfigured to hold two standard "D" cylinders of oxygen, with plenty of room for regulators, hose and BVM. Extra inserts can be purchased to allow for rapid re-supply of kits.

Each bag includes a heavily padded drug/syringe kit.

The Sked-Pak II is a simpler alternative to the Sked-Pak I, for those who do not require the jumpable bag. The Sked-Pak II has the same internal dimensions as the Sked-Pak I, which means the internal components are identical to those shown for the more complicated bag.
The Sked-Pak II has a handle which allows it to be carried like a suit-case, as well as stowable/concealed shoulder straps which allow it to be worn like a backpack. The Sked-Pak II is ideal for ground based or civilian medics, as well as air, water or ground ambulances. Since the removable main compartment is identical to the Sked-Pak I, a single insert could be stocked and transferred from bag to bag as dictated by field conditions
